Attendance and Punctuality

The School day starts at 8:55am.

All pupils are expected to be in class by 8:55am. However, as a support for working parents, our doors open at 8:30am. Pupils are welcomed into school each morning by a senior teacher. Pupils attending from 8:30am are expected to settle in their classroom to an entry activity prepared by their teacher. Outdoor football between 8:30am and 8:50am is offered on a rota basis. At 8:55am work starts immediately when pupils arrive in class, any lateness to school results in a lot of valuable work being missed.

Class registers will be closed at 9:10am. Any pupil arriving after this time must provide a note from parents explaining the late arrival at school. The lateness will be recorded as unauthorised absence if a letter is not provided. Pupils missing their entry activity due to late arrival not explained by a note, will miss the next playtime session to catch up on work missed.

If a child is unwell and unable to attend school, the school office should be informed by telephone

before 9:30am

We strongly encourage parents to avoid booking holidays in term time; it is very disruptive to pupils’ education - they miss work that they may not have the opportunity to cover again.

We consider every week in school to be essential to enable every child to meet their full potential.

If leave of absence during term time is considered essential then a request should be made by letter, giving full details, to the Head Teacher. Please note that the cost of holidays is not considered an exceptional circumstance. On occasion, we receive requests for extended leave to visit families abroad. Parents should note that return dates must be provided. Extended absence after this date could result in the child losing their place in school.

Parents should inform school of any medical appointments during school time prior to the date. Where possible, children should be brought back to school after appointments. All pupils leaving school early for medical appointments must be collected from the school office. For the safety of our pupils they are not allowed out of school during the school day to ‘meet’ parents.

The school day ends at 3:15pm.
