The Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium funding is allocated to schools to provide additional academic support to the children on roll from low-income families, who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals, or those who have been in receipt of Free School meals in the past six years. The funding is also available for children in local authority care who have been looked after continuously for more than six months. Schools are free to spend the Pupil Premium as they see fit.

The Government now requires schools, from September 2012, to publish online details of how they have used the premium. This will ensure that parents and others are made fully aware of the attainment of pupils covered by the premium. Whilst the grant allocation is made on the basis of financial years, schools plan both teaching and other support and conduct assessments over the academic year.
